And This Is An Intelligence Agency?

This is really not related to the women allowed in combat question, contrary to the impression that the article to which I am linking implies, but I still found this U.S. News & World Report article troubling, for a different reason:
A week after women were cleared to serve in combat, Defense Intelligence Agency employees got a different message. "Makeup makes you more attractive." "Don't be a plain Jane." "A sweater with a skirt is better than a sweater with slacks." "No flats." "Paint your nails." "Don't be afraid of color." And, "brunettes have more leeway with vibrant colors than blondes or redheads."
This is the Defense Intelligence Agency; are they hiring people that don't already know this?

  1. Is this for real? This sounds like one of those reports of articles from the 1950's to show how sexist the times were (as opposed to today's brand of sexism and misogyny).
