When I was practicing medicine in Canada about 1/2 of the patients over 16 I saw were on prescribed psychotropic meds, plus alcohol and cannabis.
Under 16? A lot of cannabis, some alcohol, some prescribed meds.
And the meds? Prescribed by primary care docs, not specialists: In Ontario it could take 3 to 4 years to get an initial evaluation by a qualified psychiatrist. Most such care was performed by mid-levels.
